Diljit Dosanjh 'silently' donates Rs 1 crore to buy warm clothes for protesting farmers

Popular singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh joined farmers' protest on Saturday at the Delhi border and urged government to meet their demands. The Udta Punjab star is said to have silently donated Rs 1 crore to the farmers so that they can buy warm clothes. The actor at the Singhu border said, "Hats off to all of you farmers, you have created a new history. This history would be narrated to future generations. Farmers' issues shouldn't be diverted by anyone."

He added, "We have only one request from the Centre... please fulfil the demands of our farmers. Everyone is sitting here peacefully and the entire country is with farmers. This agitation is about farmers. Things are twisted on Twitter but the truth is that farmers are protesting peacefully, nobody is talking about bloodshed here." Punjabi singer Singga revealed that Diljit donated Rs 1 crore to the protestors without publicising it as he said in Punjabi, "Thank you brother, you gave Rs 1 crore for the farmers, for their warm clothes, and nobody knows. You didn't post about it. Nowadays people can't shut up after donating Rs 10."

Diljit Dosanjh was last seen in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari, which also featured Fatima Sana Shaikh and Manoj Bajpayee in key roles. The actor, who learnt Marathi for this film recently said, "The things that a man must do for love! My character had to learn Marathi for his lady love and I had to for the love for my film. It's the kind of movie that's so seeped in innocence that you want to work towards making it better. My character speaks Marathi quite a few times in the film. He is a Bombay boy, so it's a part of his lingo." He added, "Picking up a new language is always difficult but that was a requirement in this film. It felt authentic. So when my character had to woo Fatima's character, he used these adorable Marathi lines. Those scenes are kinda heartwarming. It was such a joy to see the work you've put in come alive on screen. It's the kind of simple, uncomplicated love that we don't celebrate enough anymore."
