'We are looking at bringing one of '83 and Sooryavanshi during Holi,' says Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar

As 2021 has arrived, we are hoping the economy to improve in the coming days. While the theatres have re-opened with 50 per cent occupancy, we have not seen any big Bollywood films releasing this month at the ticket windows. But here's a good news for the movie buffs as Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar said that they are planning to release one of '83 and Sooryavanshi during Holi.

Talking to Mid-Day, Shibashish said, "The situation in the country is improving as is the economy, so the mood is largely positive. A section of people headed to theatres to watch Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984. That was an encouraging sign. So, now, we are looking at bringing one of the films in the third week of March, during Holi. We have yet to decide on the film though." He added, "These are event films that would have made Rs 300 crore under normal circumstances, so we can't play around with them. We need to be certain of the situation."

Talking about the Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer, Shibasish Sarkar said, "We were supposed to release Sooryavanshi on March 24, and 83 in April. If we follow the same sequence, Sooryavanshi should come first. That said, we are discussing the nitty-gritty." He also said that the upcoming week is very crucial as there south biggies releasing. "We are waiting for the January 13 release. There are four to five big releases in Tamil and Telugu cinema. There is a huge amount of confidence in the makers and the audience," asserted Sarkar.

Talking about Sooryavanshi, the film also features Jaaved Jaaferi, Gulshan Grover, Kumud Mishra, Abhimanyu Singh, Vivan Bhatena and Sikander Khan, with special appearances from Ajay Devgn as Singham and Ranveer Singh as Simmba. The film was supposed to release on March 24 but has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. It's been bankrolled under the banners of Rohit Shetty Picturez, Dharma Productions and Cape Of Good Films. On the other hand, '83, which showcases the journey of Indian cricket team's heroic win in the 1983 World Cup. It was scheduled to hit screens on April 10, has been pushed ahead due to the coronavirus pandemic. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar and others in pivotal roles.
