WTF Wednesday: The mud-slinging between Kumar Sanu and son Jaan Sanu is hurting both a legacy and career

Dirty laundry, however dirty, should always be washed at home. The public shouldn't get even a whiff of it. However, it seems that both Jaan Kumar Sanu and his esteemed father, Kumar Sanu, seem to have either missed or forgotten this old, tried-and-tested adage. After being recently evicted from the Bigg Boss 14 house, Jaan Kumar Sanu levied several damning allegations on his dad, questioning his right to ever point fingers at his upbringing, when he was never there for him while growing up.

Opening up to Pinkvilla, Jaan Sanu said, "Tell me something, my father left us when I was not even born. How could he question my upbringing and what would he even know about it? I don't think it was the right thing on his part to do. As far as I've seen the videos, nobody asked him for a comment and he came up with an assaulting derogatory video that raised questions on my parvarish. I have solely grown up with my mother. If Salman sir has himself praised my upbringing, then there's no question of talking about it. Inside the Bigg Boss house, there was no one who will raise a finger at my upbringing."

If that wasn't bad enough, Jaan publicly called his father's opinions "twisted" and announced to one and all his further course of action with his dad. "Outside, I didn't understand what my dad wanted, because first he put out this video, then he immediately put out another video the very next day where he was praising me. If you have such twisted and changing opinions, then there would be no weight in your words. I want to have a word with him and ask him why he said what he did because it definitely hurt me. At the end of the day, he's my father; I love him and respect him but I'll have a better perspective when I speak to him."

Not done, Jaan, not only because he's your father, but also because there's a time and place for everything even if he may actually be guilty of all that you accuse of him. A public platform is not a place to discuss private matters.

And if you expected Kumar Sanu to show more maturity at the age of 63, having been through two marriages and several highs and lows, then think again. Admittedly, we quizzed him about the matter in an exclusive interview, but half expected him to delve so deep into it.

"I had given everything what his mummy wanted, whatever she had demanded through the court, along with the Aashiqui bungalow (his bungalow, named after the 1990 film that had made Kumar Sanu an overnight nationwide sensation). Plus, my son used to keep meeting me, but after Bigg Boss I don't think he will. Even before entering Bigg Boss, he had met me and spoke to me at length. I wasn't in favour of him going on the show since the beginning, but it was his choice. Earlier, he (Jaan) had requested me, 'Baba, humko show mein lo,' toh humne show mein liya unko, 'Baba humko thoda sa music director se, producer se mila do,' toh I took him to Mahesh Bhatt, Ramesh Taurani and many other people I know since a long time. Now, if they give him work or not, it's up to them. That's completely on his talent," revealed Kumar Sanu.

Throwing up more dirt, he continued, "Even when I contracted coronavirus, I never received a single call from that house. Even now, Jaan hasn't even asked me once. See, love can't be one-sided, aur ek haath se taali nahi bajti. So, sometimes, I become good, they feel fortunate that Kumar Sanu is their daddy, phir bolte hai, 'Daddy bahut kharab hai.' After 20 years, I don't again what to get into all this. If they really feel I've done nothing, I've told the public everything through your medium. And I'm not just saying it, I have all the proof with me, it's all written in the divorce papers."

We understand that you felt the need to defend yourself, Kumar Sanu, but holding some things back for the sake of your son wouldn't have hurt. Eventually, this mud-slinging is tarnishing both your legacy and future career prospects of your son, who's equally to blame. This sort of family squabbles panning out before all to see benefits no one in the family, even those in the background, and only serves fodder for bystanders, or in your cases, for rumour mills and sensational news articles, including one like this, regardless of the intention with which it has been churned out.
