Badhaai Ho and Balika Vadhu fame Surekha Sikri reportedly suffered a brain stroke. She was admitted to the ICU of Juhu's Criticare Hospital. The hospital authorities told ETimes that Surekha Sikri has also been diagnosed with the accumulation of fluid in the lungs apart from that her response to stimuli not being up to the desired level. Her nurse had to break the actress' fixed deposit to get her hospitalised for the brain stroke. It was at 1 am when ETimes contacted the hospital authorities and they said, "The clot (developed due to the stroke) will have to be removed by medicines (thinners). But yes, Surekhaji is also in a bit of a confused state of mind." A few hours later ETimes once again got in touch with the hospital authorities. The authorities said, "She isn't responding sufficiently."
The portal also spoke to the neurologist Dr Ashutosh Shetty under whose care Surekhaji has been admitted in Criticare. He said, "Well, the fluid in the lungs will have to be tapped and then sent for analysis. Blood thinners have been administered and this will take time. She talks but only one word at a time. She has had an acute stroke, her responses are faint and slow, and this will take time." This is the second time, she is suffering from a brain stroke. In 2018, she had a stroke when she was shooting for a TV show in Mahabaleshwar. During that time she had fallen down and hit her head badly which led to a stroke. It left her paralysed as well. However, she made a full recovery gradually.
Surekha Sikri was last seen in Ghost Stories on Netflix. Her first stroke happened just after she finished her work in Badhaai Ho. She won her third National Award for her performance in Badhai Ho. In a statement, she had said, "National Award for 'Badhaai Ho' is an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. It is a great feeling right now. I got a call from the director just now informing about the National Award win. I wish he could have won the award. I thank all the people who liked the concept and the film and it feels great when your work gets appreciated."
