Birthday Special: When Lara Dutta got sick and tired of playing sexy and glamorous roles

Lara Dutta turns 43 today, April 16. The stunning actress and Miss Universe 2000 made her debut in the 2003 film Andaaz and went on to star in hit films like Partner, Masti, No Entry and many more. She was known for her oh-so-glamorous looks. But did you know she was tired of playing such roles?

In a past interview to The Asian Age, the actress revealed that she never joined the industry to be a star, but to just be an actor. She said that she was frustrated because people liked to put actors in a box and label them. While multiple offers came her way, they were all glamorous characters on screen.

"I was tired of playing sexy and good-looking glamorous roles, so it was very important for me to do different roles. I was fed up of going from one film into other without seeing any difference in the characters," she had bluntly stated.

After the birth of her first child Saira in 2011 with husband Mahesh Bhupathi, she had said that she took a step back from her career to devote her full attention to their daughter. She told Pinkvilla in an interview, "When Saira was born, being with her through her early years was my priority. Mahesh and I were clear that between both of us, one parent will always be with Saira full-time." She added that her choices of roles became hugely judged on that parameter. She was clear that it had to be worth leaving Saira and going to work.

She also said that she took on fewer roles because they sometimes just weren't good enough. "I was also seeking a metamorphosis in the kind of women characters being written and offered to me. It has to make a difference or add value to lives," said the actress.
