The Deol family has a rich and proud tradition of war films in Bollywood. While Dharmendra was a part of Indian cinema's first great war movie, Haqeeqat (1964), followed by even better one in Lalkar (1972), Sunny Deol headlined the biggest hit ever as far as war movies go in the Hindi film industry Border (1997). And while it wasn't as big a hit or taken in the same breath today, Bobby Deol's Tango Charlie (2005) was a critical darling and has since done pretty well on its TV reruns. So, does Abhay Deol take his place among this pantheon with his new web series, 1962: The War in the Hills, directed Mahesh Manjrekar of Vaastav fame. The answer is a big "NO".

What's it about
As the title suggests, 1962 The War in the Hills is inspired by true events during the 1962 Indo-China War, where not more than a fistful of 125 Indian soldiers, belonging to battalion C Company, led by Major Suraj Singh (Abhay Deol), held of an invading force of 3000 Chinese soldiers at the strategic Galwan Valley, thus thwarting their ultimate goal to capture Ladakh and take over a prime airstrip instrumental to the war effort.

What's hot
Almost nothing aside from Mahie Gills' acting (which only gets to shine in a handful of scenes where her charcter isn't butchered), there literally isn't a single redeeming aspect about 1962 The War in the Hills.
What's not
On the other hand, you'll lose count keeping up with the abominations that 1962 The War in the Hills has to offer. The web series is a blueprint in the 'so bad that it's good category'. In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to already label this as the "biggest unintentional comedy of 2021" because I don't see another movie or web series or even a standup comedy act for that matter topping this as far as laugh for laugh goes.
