The big news from Bollywood over the weekend was that of the A-lister wedding of Varun Dhawan with longtime girlfriend Natasha Dalal. And while it was a stymied affair, with a limited guest list owing to the safety guidelines, emanating from the still prevalent threat of the coronavirus pandemic, which needed to be followed, it was still an occasion to remember for the Varun Dhawan, Natasha Dalal, their families and all those who love the glitz and glamour of Bollywood.
However, who'd have known that something as normal (even if it was an expensive) as a wedding could have drawn a level of hate on social media that no (decent) person would've expected to transpire. For starters, a sizeable brigade of netizens both on Twitter and Instagram were up in arms over why media channels, websites and tabloids were giving such extensive coverage to Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dala's wedding. Following that absurd query, the same section taunted the couple from behind the safety of a keyboard, with the slurs ranging from jibes at the bride's surname and proclaiming that the groom won the hand of a "dalal's" daughter in marriage. Finally, and the most weird of the lot: Some were calling for a "boycott" of the wedding.
The answer to the first point is that people really need to be doing some research before parading their inanity on social media. If these imbeciles had, they'd have known that every channel and website has their entertainment department, and for crying out loud, what else would an entertainment department carry? As for the tabloids being dragged into this, well...they're literally all about the entertainment. Coming to the second point, our question is how vile and hateful you have to be as a person to slander someone's surname and pass such derogatory remarks to prove a point, and that, too, on their wedding of all days (not that it'd have been permissible on any other day).
As for the last point, all you need to ask yourself is that regardless what your contorted views on nepotism may be, how can you "boycott" something you haven't been "invited" to? Like, there's a limit to idiocy or not? Probably, the nepotism angle played a part in the second point, too, but imagine how vile and jealous people have become to hate on a person, whom they never met and likely never will, on nothing other than their surname.
