BTS beats BLACKPINK, PSY, TWICE, EXO in the 'most popular' survey

In the 2021 Overseas Hallyu (Korean Wave) Survey, released by the South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Foundation for International Culture Exchange, was conducted to determine which K-pop stars, K-drama actors, Korean movies and Korean shows have left a mark outside the country and made the audience talking about them. And the list of the most popular Korean content and stars included BTS, Lee Min Ho, Hyun Bin, Song Hye Kyo, Crashing Landing On You and more.

Over 8,500 Korean cultural content consumers from 18 countries, which includes United States, China and Japan, had participated in the survey which was conducted online from September 24 to November 4, 2020. They were asked about TV shows, Films and music among other topics.

When the participants were asked to name their favourite Korean singer, 22% of them voted for BTS to be the most popular one. The K-pop band has witnessed a 6.8% rise in the popularity compared to their last year's 15.2% points. BTS was followed by BLACKPINK at the 2nd place with 13.5%, PSY at the 3rd place with 2.9%, TWICE at the 4th place with 2.4% and EXO at the 5th place with 2.1%, as reported by Soompi.

When the participants were asked to name their favourite Korean actor, 9.6% of them chose The King: Eternal Monarch star Lee Min Ho on the top of their list. He was followed by Crash Landing On You star Hyun Bin at the 2nd place with 3.5%, Goblin actor Gong Yoo at 3rd with 2.3%, Descendants of the Sun actress Song Hye Kyo at 4th with 2.1% and Lee Jong Suk at 5th place with 2%.

When the participants were asked to name their favourite Korean drama, 9.5% of them voted for Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin starrer Crash Landing on You followed by Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji's hit 2020 show It's Okay to Not Be Okay at 2nd with 4.1% and The World of the Married and Itaewon Class at 3rd with 2.8%.

Among the movies, Parasite topped the list with 18.4% followed by Train to Busan at 2nd with 10.2%, Peninsula at 3rd with 3.5%, ALIVE at 4th with 2.1% and Time to Hunt at 5th with 1.6%.
