We have often heard Bollywood actresses speaking about the pay disparity in the industry. While there always have been arguments over male actors getting paid more than their female counterparts, Kareena Kapoor Khan, too, has spoken about the issue earlier. But when she asked Anil Kapoor about the pay disparity in the industry, his answer left Kareena speechless.
It so happened that Anil Kapoor appeared as a guest on Kareena's chat show, What Women Want. During the conversation, Kareena discussed about male actors in Hollywood taking a stand for their female co-stars so as to get equally paid on their project. So when Kareena asked if Bollywood actors should also start doing the same, Anil Kapoor instantly replied, "You toh took a lot of money from me" and left her stunned.
When Kareena said that they are breaking barriers and tried to push the topic a bit further by saying, "But like you said, there are still some people..," Anil went on to narrate what had transpired when negotiations for Kareena were being discussed on Veere Di Wedding with the producers.
"'Yaar, yeh toh hero se zyada paise maang rahi hai.' Maine bola, 'De do ('She is demanding more money than the hero.' I said, 'Give it to her).' They all called me up also, I said, 'Done.' They were calling me when the negotiations were on. I said, 'Bebo jo maangegi, de do (Give Kareena what she wants).'"
He further added, "There are so many films where the leading actress has taken more money and maine khushi khushi kiya (I did the films happily)."
On the work front, Anil Kapoor will be next seen in Jug Jugg Jeeyo. Helmed by Raj Mehta, the film also stars Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani and YouTuber Prajakta Koli. He will also be seen in crime drama Animal alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, and Bobby Deol.
Kareena, on the other hand, is expecting her second child with husband Saif Ali Khan. The couple is due in March 2021. "We are very pleased to announce that we are expecting an addition to our family!! Thank you to all our well wishers for all their love and support," read the family statement.
