After Coolie No. 1, is David Dhawan now planning to remake Biwi No. 1? Here's what we know

Filmmaker David Dhawan has been on a roll after he remade two of his 90s classic comedies, Judwaa 2 and Coolie No. 1, both starring his son Varun Dhawan in the lead. After Coolie No. 1 recorded the highest number of viewership on Christmas, reports have now started doing the rounds that David Dhawan was planning to remake his yet another 90s comedy, Biwi No. 1, which originally starred Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor. So when the filmmaker was asked about the same, he said that the idea is there in his mind. However, it is too early to say anything on the development.

"It is there in my mind, but not at the moment. It is too early to say anything. I need a little rest now. These kids are doing their job now and my wife needs me more than anyone for some time. Maybe I'll come up with something original. I have already worked for a lot of years. So, time will say what is in store for me in the future. Let's see how it shapes especially after theatres reopen. India is filled with entertainment. You can do anything," David Dhawan told Bollywood Hungama in an interview adding that he would like to make a fresh film now.

Recently, Varun Dhawan had said that recreating the classic entertainer Coolie No.1 was a surreal experience, adding that he wanted to make a film that would regale the whole family. "The experience of recreating a classic film that I grew up watching has been surreal, and it is humbling to receive so much love and appreciation from viewers. In a year like 2020, we wanted to bring smiles to the audiences' faces with a story that would entertain the entire family," Varun said.

The new Coolie No. 1, is a remake of the 1995 hit of the same name starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. The film is directed by Varun's father David Dhawan, and co-stars Sara Ali Khan in the lead role.

"We have entertained our consumers with movies across genres and languages, and we're glad that each of them has been loved and appreciated by the audience. We are delighted with the response to 'Coolie No. 1'," said Vijay Subramaniam of the streaming platform Amazon Prime Video, where the film dropped on Christmas. Unconfirmed figures suggest the film was watched by members across over 3700 Indian cities and towns within the first three days of release.
