Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmii is expected to be a festive treat for us during the Diwali period as the horror comedy will stream on Disney+Hotstar from November 9. Well, we all know that Raghava Lawrence's directorial is the remake of Tamil movie Kanchana, which is one of the most successful film franchises of Kollywood. In fact, every instalment of Kanchana has struck a chord with the audiences and turned out to be box office hits. So, it is quite natural for the audience to expect Laxmi as a franchise like the original one.
In an exclusive conversation with Laxmii producer Shabinaa Khan, we asked this exciting question to her and she replied, "The audience reaction and response that it will get, will decide if it will be a franchise." When asked whether Akshay Kumar was the first choice for the film, she answered, "He is anyway my first choice for every film because he did Rowdy (Rowdy Rathore) for me than he did Gabbar (Gabbar Is Back) and he is such an all-rounder I think he fits in every role like a glove."
When asked about the decision of taking a digital route instead of waiting for the theatrical release, Shabinaa said, "Honestly, with COVID when we took this decision, we were in the middle of COVID and not even the tail-end of COVID or something it was in the middle of May and even today the theatres opening there are hardly 150 theatres in India open. So, you have to see where your film can reach wide and where people will be able to see it all over. Just thinking of that, we took the decision because even now I don't think this film would have reached wide with the partial theatrical that has opened. It's a good decision we took. I am happy that we decided in May or June that we were going on OTT. It's a very sensible and good decision, I am happy."
