It's Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's wedding anniversary today. One of Bollywood's most adored couples complete eight years of marital bliss. And while there have been several charming stories of their time spent together, one particular anecdote form before their marriage will particularly take you by surprise. Did you know that Kareena Kapoor had threatened her parents, Randhir Kapoor and Babita Shivdasani, to elope with Saif, and you'll never imagine the reason behind her threat in a million years. Read on.
Apparently, both Saif Ali Khan and Kareena wanteda hush-hush wedding back in 2012, away form the media glare. However, when her parents tried their best to convince her otherwise, she threated to elope with Saif and get married in London. The reason behind the couple not wanting the usual glitz and glamour of Bollywood weddings was to keep the "purest part" of their "relationship sacred" as they had "realised that there was no value left for anything".
In an interview with Vogue magazine in 2013, Kareena had said, "We threatened that if they didn't let us do it our way, we'd run away to London and get married alone. Over the years of courtship and being together, we realised that there was no value left for anything. People just want to know what we're eating, which designer I'm wearing, who we've invited. Saif and I decided that we wanted to keep the purest part of our relationship sacred. We followed protocol by going out on to the terrace and waving at the media after officially registering the marriage, but they didn't need to know more than that."
What's more, the actress had also revealed at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2019 how many had warned her against marrying Saif at the peak of her career. "The decision to get married was...it is not a crime to be in love and if nobody wants to work with me because I am in love and I am married then don't because I will do whatever I want. Everyone said your career is over and I said if it is, so be it. But this is what I want to do, this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life and I will do it. I think it the best decision I have made as of now," she had said.
Well, once again, a happy anniversary to y'all, Kareena and Saif.
