800: Makes of Vijay Sethupathi starrer release a statement post receiving backlash from pro-Tamil groups; say, 'Art is beyond boundaries; it unites people all across'

A few days back, the official motion poster of Vijay Sethupathi starrer 800 was released by the makers. While the cricket enthusiasts and fans loved the glimpse as VJS looked the spitting image of Muthiah Muralidharan, a certain section of pro-Tamil audience slammed the actor and even trended #ShameonVijaySethupathi on Twitter for playing the biopic of a person didn't criticize the alleged wrong act of the Sri Lankan government against Tamils during the civil war in Sri Lanka.

Now, the makers of the film released a statement saying that it is a pure biopic and doesn't has any political angle. The statement reads, "The film is a journey about a man who hails from the Tamil migrant community, going on to become the highest wicket taker of all time. The film does not make any political statement favouring any community. The film is intended to be an inspiration for the younger generation to achieve their dreams irrespective of the difficulties they come across in their journey. We as the Producers assure this film will not showcase any scenes that would belittle the struggles of Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka or hurt their sentiments in any way. Art is beyond boundaries; it unites people all across. Artistes belong to the world. We wish to spread only the positivity, love and hope."

The legendary spinner recently said at Star Sports' pre-show Cricket LIVE said that VJS is perfect for his biopic and asserted, "Once the script was ready, we thought the best fit for this movie is non-other than Vijay Sethupathi. I think he is a very talented actor and he will nail the bowling expressions. I trust Vijay completely as he is one of the greatest actors and I have complete faith that he'll definitely do wonders for the film." On the other hand, Vijay Sethupathi added, "It's really nice to listen to his story and spend time with Murali sir. He is like a stamp, he makes a mark wherever he goes with his charming character and personality. I love his real life, because fans have seen him in matches on the field, but very few have got a chance to know Murli sir's personality off the field. He's very adorable and lovable. He's such a beautiful person and his story needs to be told."
