Ram Gopal Varma sets the record straight on whether Irrfan Khan was considered for Daud

One of Ram Gopal Varma's noted films in the 90's was Daud. Since some days, a story is doing the rounds that the maverick filmmaker had considered both Irrfan Khan and Manoj Bajpayee were considered for the part of Paresh Rawal's henchman in the film. Daud had released in 1997. As per Manoj Bajpayee, Ram Gopal Varma had agreed to meet him for a small part in Daud, but when he reached the office he saw that Irrfan Khan and Vineet Kumar were already seated there. Manoj Bajpayee spoke about how he managed to beat his two competitors and grab the coveted role.

But Ram Gopal Varma has a different version of what had happened in reality. He told Bollywood Hungama, "No, Irrfan was never considered for Daud. I didn't even know him when Daud was being made. I had seen Manoj in Shekhar Kapoor's Bandit Queen and offered him the role in Daud." The filmmaker also spoke about when he came to know Irrfan and his regret of not doing a film with him. He said, "We were introduced long after Daud. We never worked together. I don't know why! It's just one of those things that never happened. I regret it now. We would have created a special magic together. I think he was an actor who could anything."

Ram Gopal Varma and Manoj Bajpayee worked together in 1999 in Satya and created history. Irrfan Khan passed away last year in April. He had battled neuroendocrine tumour for two years.
