Due to the second wave of COVID-19, we saw several films taking digital route, which include Vidya Balan's Sherni, Farhan Akhtar's Toofan and Ajay Devgn-Sanjay Dutt's Bhuj: The Pride Of India. And now the latest one to join them is Priyadarshan's comic-caper Hungama 2, which stars Meezaan Jafri, Shilpa Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever. Shakti Kapoor, Pranitha Subhash and Rajpal Yadav in pivotal roles. Producer of the film, Ratan Jain has confirmed the news to an entertainment portal and said that he would have loved to release the film in theatres but looking at the current scenario, he doesn't think that the cinema halls will open before August.
Interestingly Meezaan was not the first choice for the film as he had told us exclusively, "Me getting Hungama 2 is extremely contradictory to what the aduience is saying these days. The reason I got Hungama 2 is because they like my work in Malaal. When I spoke to Ratanji (producer Ratan Jain), he tole me that Priyan sir (director Priyadarshan) had first approached Ayushmann Khurrana, and then they had approached Kartik Aaryan and both said no for whatever reasons they know best. So, Ayushmann and Kartik were the first choices for Hungama 2, after which they thought of me."
He also shared his thoughts on the nepotism debate and said, "If you think about it, my father is also a product of nepotism. But his father (the legendary Jagdeep) didn't help him get any work. Today, if I am in touch with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it's because my friend is his niece (Sharmin Segal), but my father has never done a movie with Sanjay Leela Bhansal and still has no movies from him. My father himself would love to be in a Bhansali film, so he'd call up for himself first before me. It's just luck that has played out in my story to have a friend like Sharmin who introduced me to her mama and we all do things for friends in every walk of life."
