What to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar and more OTT platforms in April, May, June 2021 as we tide over the second wave of covid-19

With theatres again being shut across Maharashtra and tall restrictions set to be the order of the day in the foreseeable future across the country, the public will once again resort to alternate forms of entertainment. Factor in the additional impediments of night curfews and weekend lockdowns all through Maharashtra and some other territories, too, pushing film producers to further postpone their movies, and those alternate forms of entertainment quickly boil down to one thing and one thing alone OTT platforms.

So, what will streaming services be dishing out in the coming months and how do they intend to cash in on this opportunity? Well the answer to the first question is 'a lot', and for the second, it's 'big time'. Anyway, to make your life easier, we've listed down the web series and web films to look forward to in April, May, and June 2021 so you could easily decide what to watch, especially if you're holed up at home.

The Big Bull (Disney Hotstar) - 8th April

Abhishek Bachchan's take on the Harshad Mehta scam will have the uphill task to hold its own after the uber-popular Scam 1992, but the trailer offers hope.

Hello Charlie (Amazon Prime Video) - 9th April

The comedy movie between man and ape, starring Aadar Jain, Jackie Shroff, Rajpal Yadav, Shhloka Pandit and Elnaaz Norouzi, endeavours to take you on a crazy ride, and given the popularity of flicks like King Kong, Godzilla vs. Kong, Planet of the Apes,m or the rib-tickling Baby's Day Out, it might just succeed if the content clicks.

Ajeeb Daastaans (Netflix) - 16th April

The Karan Johar produced anthology film, boasting a huge ensemble cast such as Fatima Sana Shaikh, Jaideep Ahlawat, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shefali Shah, Manav Kaul, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Abhishek Banerjee, focuses on women being dealt a raw deal in their relationships, and how they need to find liberation elsewhere.

Aranyak, Decoupled, Feels Like Ishq, Ray, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, Finding Anamika, Mai (Netflix) - release dates TBA

A slew of other interesting titles are set to drop on Netflix, though their release dates are yet to be confirmed. However, with the situation as it is, we expect these OTT giants to cash in big time and make hay while the sun shines (remember what we mentioned earlier on in the article). So, don't be surprised if the makers of these web shows make a beeline for their titles to be released with movies being absent from cinema halls. Until the dates come in though, here's a gist of what they're about...

Aranyak stars Raveena Tandon in her big OTT debut as she investigated the trail of a serial killer in a sleepy Himalayan town.

Decoupled revolves a couple, played by R. Madhavan and Surveen Chawla, as they try to keep up the illusion of marriage for the sake of their daughter.

The anthology Feels Like Ishq comprises seven breezy stories about young love, and features actors like Amol Parashar, Kajol Chugh and Mihir Ahuja.

Ray is an anthology series, based on Satyajit Ray's short stories, and stars Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao, Kay Kay Menon, Ali Fazal, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Radhika Madan, Shweta Basu Prasad, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Rajesh Sharma, Bidita Bag, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Raghubir Yadav, and Manoj Pahwa among others.

Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein is about young love gone terribly wrong, and stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Shweta Tripathi, Anchal Singh, Saurabh Shukla, Surya Sharma, Brijendra Kala and Arunoday Singh.

Finding Anamika is Netflix's big-ticket Indian release of the year as it marks none other than Madhuri Dixit's OTT debut, in the role of a glamorous, international superstar who mysteriously disappears. It costars Sanjay Kapoor and Manav Kaul.

Mai is headlined by Sakshi Tanwar as a docile middle-aged mother, who gets embroiled with white-collar criminals and dirty politics. It's produced by Anushka Sharma's Clean Slate Films, which brought us the fabulous Paatal Lok

After the superlative season 1, can any of us even wait for the sophomore round of Delhi Crime?

Mumbai Diaries 26/11, The Family Man 2, Untitled Shahid Kapoor Web Show (Amazon Prime Video) - release dates TBA

Just like Netflix, Amazon Prime also has a handful of interesting web series lined up, which we expect to arrive sooner rather than later with theatres now being shut. In the meantime, here's their overview...

Mumbai Diaries 26/11 stars Mohit Rania and Konkana Sen Sharma, and revisits the fateful accounts of the 26/11 terror attacks by focusing on the events at Cama Hospital. On the other hand, Raj and DK's The Family Man season 2 and Shahid Kapoor's debut web series are among the two most anticipated OTT releases in recent times.

Aarya 2 (Disney Hotstar) - release date TBA

As with Delhi Crime and The Family Man, the second season of Sushmita Sen's Aarya is being hotly anticipated.

Additionally, the second seasons of some popular series are also lined up for release on Alt Balaji and MX Player. Exciting times ahead indeed for OTT platforms.
