New-age comedy king Varun Sharma on what he learnt from the original comedy ka baadshah, Govinda [Exclusive]

Varun Sharma has rapidly proven himself to be an acr at comedy with rib-tickling performances in films like Fukrey, its sequel, Fukrey Returns, and 2019's blockbuster, Chhichhore. In fact, so impeccable is his comic timing, and so effortless his delivery of funny dialogues that his characters like Choocha ans Sexa have already become pop-culture icons among Bollywood movie buffs. However, if one wishes to see the true testament of Varun Sharma's comic gifts, then they need to look no further than 2018's FryDay, in which he held his own before possibly the greatest comedy icon in the history of Indian cinema (all of it, every language), Govinda, a feat that few if anybody has managed to accomplish when the roles have been equally divided. Being huge Govinda fans ourselves, BollywoodLife decided to inquire everything about Varun's experience of working with the veteran superstar during an exclusive interview with his Roohi costars, and he was more than willing to divulge the details.

Regaling the entire experience with considerable joy, Varun Sharma said, "As far as working with Govinda sir goes, I think, he's a legend and we all (indicating to Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor) really look up to him and especially he's a master in the genre we're speaking about. I had a lot of fun working with him, plus, there was so much to learn. Many a times in life it happens such that while working with someone, their qualities get imbibed in you, which you aren't even aware of as it isn't intentional, but it starts reflecting in your work; similarly, I adapted many such things from him you're on a film set for six to seven months, right from the beginning of the process till you finish the movie, so, you get to learn many things, and I feel really happy and fortunate that I, at least, got a chance to work with him in a genre that he's a master in, and that, too, in an early stage of my career. I feel really happy and honoured and yeah, it's great fun to make people laugh, one should stay happy, that's it."

Well we're just happy to have witnessed two great comic talents from different generations together on screen, right?
