Throwback Thursday: From admitting she has pimples to dismissing comparisons with Sridevi — here's why Divya Bharti was a BINDAAS darling — watch video

She came, she saw, she conquered it all, she left too soon we're talking about the one and only Divya Bharti, who has, till date, probably made the biggest splash at the beginning of her career than any other actress in Indian cinema past or present. After ruling the roost in Tamil and Telugu movies, Divya made the switch to Bollywood with a bang, delivering hit after hit and iconic chartbuster after iconic chartbuster and at one time, had filmmakers queuing outside her door to such an extent that everyone from Madhuri Dixit to Raveena Tandon to Karisma Kapoor wondered where their next film would come from. Her popularity down South matched Vijayshanti at the time, who was known as 'Lady Amitabh of South Indian Cinema', and pan-India, it was rivalled by the one and only, Sridevi.

If not for her untimely fatal accident, who knows the greater heights Divya Bharti may have reached. However, today, we're here to celebrate her iconic career, however short-lived it was, and it being her birth anniversary, we thought of focusing on a lesser-known aspect of Divya Bharti's personality her "bindaas" persona. We've dug up a blast-from-the-past interview of the actress from the archives that as apt for a Throwback Thursday moment as you'd ever find.

From admitting she has pimples and brushing aside comparisons with Sridevi to revealing how she wished to never wash her hands for ten days after meeting Amitabh Bachchan for the first time and she telling her fans to do the same after they would shake her hand to confessing how she would get irritated upon being mobbed in South India and disclosing how she did films to get away from studies, which she hated this is a side of Divya Bharti that explicitly shows how pure, unadulterated, candid, genuine and raw she loved keeping it in real life, perennially undaunted to let her guard down before the media and her fans. Watch the video below:

Forever missed, forever celebrated, forever an enigma that's the icon, Divya Bharti for you.
