Rajiv Kapoor bid his final goodbye to the world yesterday after passing away from a massive heart attack at the age of 58. Though Rajiv Kapoor didn't taste the same level of success as Rishi Kapoor, or even Randhir Kapoor for that matter, or that seen by his father Raj Kapoor, or uncles Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor, he's still remembered for a handful of cult films like Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985), his blockbuster debut, Ek Jaan Hain Hum (1988) and Zalzala (1988), the unofficial Bollywood remake of Hollywood classic, Mackenna's Gold. He also directed the Rishi Kapoor starrer, Prem Granth (1996). Rajiv Kapoor's last movie as an actor was Zimmedar (1990). Well...not anymore as Director Ashutosh Gowariker of Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar fame has revealed that his last movie will be posthumous appearance in his upcoming movie, Toolsidas Junior, alongside Sanjay Dutt.
Remembering the actor on social media, Ashutosh Gowariker, "I was a great fan of Rajiv Kapoor, from his Ram Teri Ganga Maili days. It was a superb debut performance. I carried that memory with me for many years and then we connected quite a few times since Lagaan. And when an opportunity arrived in the form of my production of TOOLSIDAS JUNIOR, (which is directed by Mridul), I cast him in it."
Lamenting how Rajiv Kapoor won't be able to witness his last performance, Ashutosh added, "It was really lovely to work with Rajiv. On sets, he was an absolute professional. And played the part with so much fun, dignity, and ease. What an affable person he was. His performance in TOOLSIDAS JUNIOR is going to surprise everyone. Sadly, he won't be there to enjoy the accolades he was surely going to receive. My team had called him just a couple of days ago, to set up his interviews for the promotion of TOOLSIDAS JUNIOR. And now, I still cannot believe that I am talking about him in the past tense."
Toolsidas Junior is an sports drama told from a human angle. Written & directed by Mridul. it's produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Ashutosh Gowariker, and his wife, Sunita Gowariker.
