When there is a film with an underlying message, it often gets either too preachy or too serious. Seldom do you find something which leaves a smile in your lips, while making you realise something important, something deep. Neena Gupta starrer Pinni, a part of the anthology Zindagi inShort now streaming on Netflix, falls in the latter category. The short is directed by Tahira Kashyap, who loves to tell simple stories of hope, with lot of heart. Produced by Guneet Monga, Pinni will remind you of your own mother or perhaps yourself too, if you are a woman. Pinni is a sweet tale that is real and relatable, with a simple take away of selflove.

What's it about
The film revolves around Sudha (Neena Gupta) who is a devoted housewife. She loves cooking and her signature Pinnis are a big hit with family and friends. But while she takes care of everyone's wishes and wants, she is rarely taken care of. Neither her husband or her daughter or family has time to listen to her. Her husband (played by Shishir Sharma) is rarely ever concerned about what Sudha wants or wants to say. And then one day, on her birthday a new Sudha is born. A Sudha who decides that enough is enough. She knows she deserves to be happy and to be treated well, with respect and showered with love. And if there is no body who cares to do that, she will do it on her own, for herself.

What's hot
Neena Gupta, Neena Gupta and Neena Gupta the actress par excellence takes you go on an emotional roller coaster in every frame. You feel her mirth, her disappointment and taste the triumph when she finally finds a way to put an end to all those things that had been pulling her down. Through this simple chapter from 'roz marra ki zindagi' this Zindagi inShort - Pinni is a sweet reminder to all women out there to hit the pause button and ask what the heck are they doing to themselves. And to underline the empowering impact of putting yourself first.
What's not
That it leaves you craving for pinni. Jokes apart, there is a romanticism between a cook and his/her signature food, we found that missing in the short. It would have been lovely to have a few scenes pan out when Neena's Sudha was making the Pinni and the viewer could be taken through the process.
BL Verdict
Pinni leaves you with a sweet aftertaste of how life could change and moments can become blissful memories if, only if, you start putting yourself first.
