Tuesday Trivia: Did you know about the 'Tandav' in casting that happened for Ali Abbas Zafar's Sultan?

Blockbuster Director Ali Abbas Zafar is quite in the news these days for all the hullaballoo surrounding his web series, Tandav. The show has landed itself in hot soup over certain section taking objection to a few of its scenes and dialogues allegedly being insensitive toward the portrayal of Hindu deities while some others have also claimed that the Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kritika Kamra, Sunil Grover, Kumud Mishra, Sarah Jane Dias and Amyra Dastur starrer has fanned casteism. Now, before we touch upon the reaction of team Tandav, let's take a detour for a moment and revisit a "Tandav" of another kind that had occurred during the casting of Ali Abbas Zafar's very first blockbuster, Sultan.

So, we all now how Sultan not only went on to do humungous business of Rs. 300.45 crore nett at the box-office back in 2016, but also has gone down as one of Salman Khan's most-loved film, enjoyed as much by the masses as well as the classes. In fact, there are those who've also claimed to have enjoyed it better than another blockbuster film on wrestling that had released in the same year, Aami Khan's Dangal, which ended up as the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time both domestically and internationally. However, y'all must be wondering what is this Tandav in the casting of the movie we're harping about? Well read on to know more...

So, as everybody is well aware of, Sultan marked the first time that Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma were paired together on screen, and their adorable chemistry was one of the prime reasons of the the film clicking so well. But, did you know that Anushka Sharma wasn't the first choice for the role of Aarfa? Sources close to the movie claim that it was first offered to Deepika Padukone, making it the third or fourth time that a filmmaker tried bringing her and Salman together, only for destiny to intervene.

If that's not surprising enough, then wait till you read about how Anushka wasn't even the second choice for the part. After Deepika Padukone had turned down the offer, our sources reveal that Sultan was offered to another YRF favourite, Parineeti Chopra, and once she had declined it, too, it was bagged by the production house's other blue-eyed girl, Anushka. That's not it though as you'd be surprised to know that even Randeep Hooda, who had admirably played the part of Salman's MMA coach in the second half of Sultan, was the second choice for the role, which was initially offered to Sanjay Dutt as per the same sources.

Coming to team Tandav's reaction to the controversy that has erupted around the Amazon Prime web show, the cast and crew have issued an unconditional apology that

read: "We have been closely monitoring viewer reactions to the web series Tandav and today during a discussion, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has informed us regarding a large number of grievances and petitions received on various facets of the web series with serious concerns and apprehensions regarding its content hurting the sentiments of the people."

"The web series Tandav is a work of fiction and any resemblance to acts and persons and events is purely coincidental. The cast and crew did not have any intention to offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead. The cast and crew of Tandav take cognizance of the concerns expressed by the people and unconditionally apologize if it has unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments," the apology continued.
