"The glasses (Sukhbir's iconinc black shades) were given to me by Simon, the same gentleman who directed Nachdi (his latest video). He also directed Gal Ban Gayi and Oh Ho Ho Ho (Ishq Tera Tadpave) this is our sixth video together. So, I was very conscious in my very first video there were all white foreigners behind the camera and they expect you to perform. And the Director, Simon...he couldn't understand the song, but he said, 'Try these on,' and when he gave me those glasses, I closed my eyes for the first shot and imagined nobody was there, and he said, 'Wow, this is very good, the confidence has just come, I don't know what has happened with the glasses, but I can see it.' And the other good thing that happened is when I don't wear them, I don't get recognised a lot, so it really helps with my private and personal life. Also, they had a stylist, they gave me that look with the glasses, and I kind of liked it, it came naturally to me from the very first video. Later on, I decided that black is a great colour, it gives you that 'don't mess with me' look, which is contrary to what I am in real life. I am still very conscious, but when I just wear these glasses, and when I go on stage, those moves emerge from nowhere," said Sukhbir when we quizzed him about his trademark look.
In an exclusive interview with BollywoodLife, Sukhbir opened up about what we can expect from his new single, Nachdi, how the song came about, how he make each of his tracks unique and peppy, why he gives so much importance to the chorus in his music, mixing Bhangra with reggae and being inspired by Bob Marley, and how he acquired his unique all-black style and the secret behind his black shades transforming him while performing. He also touched upon remixes, including that of his own songs like Sauda Khara Khara, and how they're not always a bad thing, particularly if a lot about them gets changed while retaining the original essence, and how it bring a new audience for the artist while also reigniting interest in the original song.
