WTF Wednesday: Neha Kakkar and Rohanpreet Singh's pregnancy gimmick leading to media hype was a huge facepalm moment

Neha Kakkar's pregnancy (false) was one of the most hyped news in the past few days. It led to incorrect media reporting and hit everybody on their faces like a huge facepalm. Let's start from the beginning, a couple of days ago, Neha Kakkar had shared a picture in which she was seen flaunting her grown belly which a woman has when she is pregnant. In the social media post, Neha had put one single hashtag which read #KhyaalRakhyaKar. And Rohanpreet had added to it commenting that they now would need to be extra careful. And before they even bat their eyelids, the news of their pregnancy went viral like a wildfire. Many publications reported it saying that Neha Kakkar has announced her pregnancy without even giving a thought to whether a belly grows that big enough in the third month. For starters, the belly starts showing up when a woman reaches half of her second trimester.

The media portals rushing to report the pregnancy which was not even true and without checking the facts or confirming with Neha Kakkar or Rohanpreet was the biggest facepalm moment of recent times. The competition between the portals is understandable but the hashtag was a big giveaway. A day later, Neha Kakkar shared the poster of the upcoming music single titled Khyaal Rakhya Kar. For those of you who don't know, just after the end of Bigg Boss 13, Asim Riaz and Himanshi Khurana featured in Khyaal Rakhya Kar by Preetinder which is why the hashtag was a big giveaway.

While the media hype was too rushed, we have to say that such publicity/promotional activity can hamper in more ways than one. It can easily lead to false reporting and further lead to damaging the reputation of the artists and the entertainment portal as well. As you know, these days, there more trolls on social media than genuine supporters. It wouldn't hurt if the posts could not mislead in any way. While the media should have been responsible, we guess being a little vigilant on the artists' part won't hurt anybody.
