Kangana Ranaut has been one of the most talked-about actresses in the recent past. She has been grabbing headlines almost every day for a couple of months now. She had went all out and bashed Karan Johar and his colleagues calling them flag bearer or nepotism, Bullywood and whatnot. She had been criticising them and their work left, right and center via social media posts. Recently, her mentor, Anurag Basu who worked with Kangana in Murder, Gangster Life... In a Metro and Kites opened up on the newcomer Kangana Ranaut.
Anurag Basu revealed that out of several girls that were auditioned, Kangana's face was stuck in his mind. "Of the 20-25 girls we auditioned for the part, her face just stuck in my head - there was something unique about her," Anurag Basu told Mid-Day. "In the beginning, she needed guidance for everything. But she is a really fast learner. I have seen her growth during the filming of Gangster itself," he added. Recalling the newbie Kangana Ranaut, Anurag Basu said, "There was something very raw and organic about her, very refreshing, very new."
And when asked about Kangana Ranaut's changed personality, Anurag Basu said, "Not really. We usually don't meet, but whenever we do, this [public] persona is not the Kangana I [know] personally. So I think there are two Kanganas. Beech wali [the other one] I don't understand."
Kangana Ranaut and Anurag Basu were to collaborate again for Imali but she had opted out to focus on her career and being a director. She had clarified about it in an interview. "Anurag and I have spoken about it. I feel extremely bad because Imali was giving me an opportunity to work with my mentor again, but I'm on the verge of announcing my own film in a few weeks from now. That has taken a lot of my time and I have conveyed it to Anurag, who understood my situation," Kangana Ranaut had told PTI back in 2018.
