2020 Recap: Mahabharat reunion, Nora Fatehi-Terence Lewis video, NCB drug probe – here are the top 12 TV Newsmakers of the year

2020 has been a roller coaster ride for everyone. The coronavirus pandemic set the whole world on pause mode. We all had to be locked inside our homes to remain safe. The entertainment industry also came to a stop and we could not see our favourite TV shows and movies for a long time. However, during those times, older movies and TV shows came to our rescue. A lot of celebrities passed away this year, too, making it a dark year for the TV and Bollywood both. However, we did have a few good things to cheer about. So, as 2020 is ending, we are here to give you guys a recap of all that shocked and surprised us from the TV industry. Take a look at the top twelve TV Newsmakers of the year below:

NCB drug probe

 

Sushant Singh Rajput passed away on June 14, 2020. He had committed suicide by hanging himself in his Bandra flat. His demise was a huge shock for everyone and it also became a big controversy. We saw many claiming that Sushant did not commit suicide, but was murdered. People demanded an investigation in the case and soon, the CBI took over. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NBC)'s investigation involved saw many big stars and other popular names being interrogated. After Bollywood, TV celebs were also brought in, with Anuj Keshwani, one of the peddlers, revealing links to TV actors Sanam Johar and Abigail Pande. The NCB raided Abigail's Juhu residence and found some quantity of charas. Other drugs were also reportedly found. Abigail Pande was also a friend of late Sushant Singh Rajput. As per reports on Republic TV, she had named Sara Khan and Angad Hasija as others who allegedly purchased and peddled drugs. However, it was later revealed that Sara and Angad's names were not taken by Abigail or Sanam. Post that, Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the drug case. They were sent to judicial custody till December 4 by a magistrate court on Sunday after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 86.5 gm of ganja (Cannabis) at their production office and residence. The NCB, in a press release, had revealed that Bharti and Haarsh accepted the consumption of ganja. They were later granted bail.

Krushna Abhishek and Govinda's public spat

 

Krushna Abhishek and mama Govinda's fights have not ended. Recently, Krushna Abhishek did not appear on an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show and the reason behind his absence was said to be his fallout with Govinda, who came as a guest. We have often seen Krushna using mama-bhanja joke in his gigs to tickle the funny bone of the audience. When it comes to facing his Chichi mama, Krushna appears to be maintaining a distance. He had said that despite the immense amount of love, the rift between them has widened a lot. Govind also opened up about the differences between him and Krushna. He said, "I feel that washing dirty linen in public is an indication of insecurity and allows outsiders to take advantage of misunderstandings in a family."

Nora Fatehi and Terence Lewis' morphed video

 

India's Best Dancer judge Terence Lewis found himself in the middle of a controversy this year when a morphed video of him started doing the rounds. In the video, we could see him touching the butt of his fellow judge and dancer, Nora Fatehi. People were quick to slam him, but Nora Fatehi came to his rescue, saying that it was a morphed video and nothing of the sort had transpired.

Nia Sharma's penis-shaped cake

 

Nia Sharma celebrated her birthday on September 17 by cutting approximately 18 cakes. She also had a separate party at night on the same day with her friends, Arjun Bijlani, Reyhna Pandit and others. The actress also cut a phallus-shaped cake on her birthday and was slammed for it, with netizens criticizing her for obscenity on social media.

Shehnaaz Gill and her father, Santokh Singh Sukh

 

There were reports that Shehnaaz Gill's father, Santokh Singh Sukh was accused of sexual assault by a woman from Jalandhar. As per Dainik Bhaskar, the woman, 40, went to his residence with a female friend. She had a fight with one Lucky Sandhu, who was apparently staying with Santokh Singh Sukh at his residence in Beas City, Amritsar. It seems Santokh was waiting for her outside his residence and told her to get into his car on the pretext of taking her to Lucky. She alleged that he then raped her at gunpoint near Rohi Bridge. The victim registered a complaint three days after the alleged crime. Santokh Singh Sukh had said that he did not leave his residence on said date. He has said that she came to his place with a couple of women, but he told her to resolve the matter personally with Lucky as they were in a relationship. Lucky Sandhu is apparently married with a child. Santokh Singh Sukh put out a statement on Instagram saying he is innocent. He also told people not to target his kids, Shehnaaz and Shehbaz. After this, Santokh Singh Sukh also got into an argument with his daughter, Shehnaaz Gill. Shehnaaz had recently visited Punjab for a shoot. It was after two years that she visited her hometown and a lot of her fans were excited to meet her. However, she had decided not to meet them, which left them disappointed. Even her father was very angry with her. He had said that he will never ever talk to her again and that she has now developed an attitude. Post that, he put out a video where he stated that he had an angry outburst, and nothing could ruin their bond. He said that he felt embarrassed as some of his close friends wanted to meet Shehnaaz. He also requested the media to not blow the matter out of proportion.

Shweta Tiwari and Abhinav Kohli

 

Shweta Tiwari's former husband and actor, Abhinav Kohli, was arrested by Mumbai Police after the actress had filed a complaint accusing him of domestic violence and molestation. He refuted all allegations of domestic violence in their marriage. He also claimed that Shweta used her own daughter, Palak Tiwari, against him. Later, he claimed that Shweta had taken his son, Reyaansh, to an undisclosed location and was not allowing the father and son to meet. After Shweta had confirmed that she had tested positive for coronavirus, she had sent Reyansh to Abhinav Kohli. The latter also claimed that he took care of their son while the actress was home quarantined and recuperating from the virus and even during her shoots thereafter. Abhinav later sent a legal notice to Shweta for defamation and also posted several videos of her. In one of them, we can hear Shweta Tiwari telling him not to enter the house. She tells him to talk to their son, Reyansh, from outside the door. Abhinav Kohli has said that she took their son away to hotels without informing him to create an impression that he did not care for his son.

Vikas Gupta's shocking confession

 

Vikas Gupta had called out all those who had hurt him in the past. He had taken Parth Samthaan, Shilpa Shinde, Priyank Sharma's names and opened up about all they had done to hurt and break him. He openly confessed that he's bisexual. Post this, he received plenty of support from fans and his celebrity friends. Hence, he connected with his fans on an Instagram live session. Vikas posted the live video, in which he revealed that he did expect a lot of support from fans and people in the industry as he had openly confessed about being bisexual. While live on Instagram, he addressed a boy named Vansh who had posted a derogatory video of him. In the video, Vansh confirmed that Vikas did not do anything wrong with him, and he made the video only to gain popularity and on the basis of a video made by Snaky Bhai. Later, during his brother Siddharth's birthday bash, Vikas was not invited. The birthday bash was attended by Vikas' mother, brother Vatan and other friends. The party was held at Madh Island, where Siddharth has settled down. Vikas and Siddharth had stayed away from each other for a year in 2018. But reunited later. However, they once again appear to be estranged. Vikas revealed that his family was ashamed of him.

Shilpa Shinde and Gangs of Filmistaan

 

Shilpa Shinde was supposed to return to television with Gangs of Filmistaan. However, even before the show started, Shilpa Shinde quit it. She cited working with comedian Sunil Grover as well as the long working hours as the primary issues. She accused the makers of Gangs of Filmistaan of the guidelines and lying about Sunil Grover. She said that she was being treated as a junior artiste and could not work in a place where there's no self-respect. Producers Preeti and Neeti Simoes had leaked their WhatsApp chats and in return, Shilpa Shinde also shared a few more screenshots of her email and Whatsapp chat with them. With these screenshots, Shilpa also asked them not to spread lies. Shilpa Shinde had also said that her co-star, Siddharth Sagar, also faced the same issue and broke into tears on the sets of Gangs of Filmistan. However, Siddharth has denied it.

Yashraj Mukhate's Kokilaben Rasoda song

 

Yashraj Mukhate became an overnight sensation after he released a fun video of Saath Nibhaana Saathiya's Kokilaben and her daughter-in-laws, Gopi and Rashi, giving a funny twist to a conversation between Kokilaben Modi, Gopi Bahu and Rashi. Fans will remember that it was an intense scene, where Kokilaben was enraged with Rashi and scolds Gopi Bahu. He turned it into a rap song with auto-tuning. The hilarious video had a collage of Kokilaben's expressions as she says, "Toh Kaun Tha". The video went viral on the internet in no time and many memes, too, were made on it. Later, we saw the return of Saath Nibhaana Saathiya for a second season.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's 3000th episode

 

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah had been in the news, too, this year. After lockdown was relaxed, we got to see fresh episodes of our favourite TV shows. However, the new episodes of Taarak Mehta were met with a lot of criticism as fans were not happy with the content. Thankfully, the show later returned to its original quality. We also saw the show completing 3000 episodes.

Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke's cancellation

 

Shaheer Sheikh and Rhea Sharma starrer Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke was one of the most loved shows. It had a massive fan-following and people loved the crackling chemistry between Shaheer Sheikh and Rhea Sharma. The beautiful love story of Abir and Mishti touched multiple hearts. However, soon the show went off-air due to low TRPs. Fans were not happy and went on to slam the makers for being unfair. People protested against the makers and asked them to give the show an extension.

Mahabharat reunion on BollywoodLife

Mahabharat is one of the most loved TV series in the history of Indian television. So, BollywoodLife.com had decided to get together the five Pandavas Rohit Bhardwaj, Saurav Gurjar, Shaheer Sheikh, Vin Rana and Lavanya Bhardwaj for our BFF special episode, and it turned out to be a laugh riot and a major nostalgic trip as all of them went on to share their fondest memories of shooting for Mahabharat.
