The year 2020 has not been easy for almost every sector, including the entertainment industry. A lot of things have happened throughout this year that were beyond everyone's imagination and anticipation. While some were more than shocking, others challenged the logical aspects of human behaviour. And since the year is coming to an end, let's take a look at these WTF events that we don't want to see happen in the years to come
Kangana Ranaut-Diljit Dosanjh's Twitter war
It all started when Diljit hit out at Kangana for misidentifying an elderly Sikh woman from the farmers' protest as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh, after the latter had said the woman had joined the protest for Rs. 100. While Kangana deleted her tweet, the damage had been done. The very fact that she had to delete her tweet proved that it was fake. Instead of apologising or just accepting that her information was wrong, she started a personal attack on Diljit.
Bigg Boss 14 contestants made to reveal their darkest secrets on national television
It was extremely disheartening to see the housemates ranking each other's trauma on the show just for the sake of immunity. The immunity stone that filmmaker Ekta Kapoor bestowed upon housemate Rubina Dilaik was up for grabs. To win it, the contestants had to reveal that one, very personal thing that no one knows about themselves. This turned out to be a very disheartening episode as the contestants revealed some very personal and life-changing truths about themselves.
FIR against Amitabh Bachchan over KBC question
An FIR was lodged against Amitabh Bachchan and the makers of his popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati for hurting Hindu sentiments. The problem arose following a question that Bachchan asked in the Karamveer episode, related to the Manusmirti. Social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anoop Soni were guests on the episode. Explaining the answer, Amitabh Bachchan said in Hindi that in 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti and also burned copies of it to prove a point against caste system.
Mukesh Khanna's 'misogynistic' comment on women
Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna was slammed by netizens for saying that the #MeToo movement began after women started stepping out for work. Talking about the movement in a video, which went viral on social media, Mukesh had said, "Aurat ka kaam hai ghar sambhalna (The job of a woman is to take care of the house). Problem kahaan se shuru hui hai #MeToo ki jab auraton ne bhi kaam karna shuru kar diya (The problem of #MeToo began when women started working). Aaj aurat mard ke saath kandhey se kandha milane ke baat karti hai (Today, women talk about walking shoulder-to-shoulder with men)."
Boycott of The Kapil Sharma Show over Kiku Sharda mimicking Arnab Goswami
People couldn't tolerate a harmless comic act about prime-time, perennially screming journalist Arnab Goswami, performed by Kiku Sharda, on The Kapil Sharma Show, which dared to mirror/roast the ongoing unrest in the country and said journo's coverage of it. Kiku made fun of Goswami by mimicking his ways of reporting, or should we just say, sensationalising the death of Sushant Singh Rajput for boosting his channel's TRP. However, fans of Goswami and those who are blinded by the journalist's narrative of truth began a social-media campaign to shut the show down.
Despicable reportage on Sushant Singh Rajput's death and conspiracy theories
From sensational headlines to barging into Sushant Singh Rajput's residence in Patna and shoving mics into his family members' visages it was perhaps the worst performance of the media after their coverage on Sridevi's death. 'Filmon ka Dhoni asal zindagi mein out kaise', 'Sushant zindagi ki pitch par hit-wicket kaise ho gaye', 'Sushant itne ashant kaise': Such taglines were used by Hindi news channels with a melodramatic background scores. And if that was not enough, social-media users turned themselves into private detectives and began their investigation based on conspiracy theories.
