Richa Chadha wins PETA's Best Vegan Style Icon award; says, 'I stopped wearing silk and leather a few years ago'

Days after being bestowed with Dr. Ambedkar Bharat Ratna honour for her contribution to cinema, Richa Chadha has another gong to her name. The actress has won Peta's Best Vegan Style Icon. With the advent of pandemic, awareness of animal abuse and suffering has come under sharp focus. Richa has always worked steadfastly towards demanding sustainability of the environment and bringing in the need for cruelty-free clothing. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India this year hosted the virtual edition of their awards and announced the winners of the Vegan Fashion Awards 2020 amidst much fanfare.

The initiative recognises the most progressive brands and individuals ushering forth animal-free fashion. In a statement, Richa Chadha said, "Am delighted to be named a style icon. Although it's not always possible because we rely on stylists and makeup people to make us look great and can't always choose cruelty free things, in my personal life I always strive to stay the course. For instance, I stopped wearing silk and leather a few years ago. Am very pleased with this recognition. Thank you, Peta."

Recently, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal shift into a gorgeous sea-facing apartment prior to tying the knot. Opening up about their new home in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Richa Chadha said, "The lease on my previous apartment had expired in March but the lockdown postponed the shift. I'm happy with our new home, which is quiet and has a beautiful sea view. Away from the suburbs of Bandra and Andheri in Mumbai, it saves us from the constant review of the paparazzi, too."

Commenting on Ali Fazal as a housemate, Richa added, "He is fun, and unlike most boys, likes to help around. He chose the curtains without fuss; luckily, our aesthetics match for the most part. It's good to finally be able to take decisions together, right from what soap to buy to which maid to hire. Ali is a better cook, specially when it comes to continental cuisine. When we went grocery shopping, his bag was bigger than mine. I enjoy organic farming and here we have a space to grow a kitchen garden of our own, which he is helping me with. But, Ali is not used to pets and one of them is scared of him. Even he is adjusting to them."

Well, congratulations again, Richa.
