Kaun Banega Crorepati 12: FIR filed against Amitabh Bachchan and the show for hurting religious sentiments

Kaun Banega Crorepati is one of the longest running and most loved shows on Indian television, but that doesn't mean it's impervious to vitriolic controversies as in today's day and age, with our society turning as sensitive and intolerant as it has, nothing and nobody is. The latest entertainment news development about the show is that both KBC and its superstar host, Amitabh Bachchan, have landed itself in hot soup over a question asked on a recent episode, so much so that a FIR has now been filed against them. The bone of contention is a question posed by Big B to celebrity guests, social activist Bezwada Wilson and actor Anup Soni.

During the episode, Amitabh Bachchan asked Bezwada Wilson and Anup Soni, "On 25 December 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar and his followers burned copies of which scripture? The options are a.) Vishnu Purana, b.) Bhagavad Gita, c.) Rigdev and d.) Manusmriti." The question was the prize money of Rs. 6,40,000. After the question in answered, Amitabh goes on to say, "In 1927, Dr. BR Ambedkar condemned the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti to ideologically justify caste discrimination and untouchability and he also burned copies of it," as is customary for him to provide some insight into the questions, especially for the ones entailing higher prize money.

However, despite the fact that this is a legitimate part of Indian history and not made up by either the showrunners or the host, they've found themselves in trouble after an FIR was filed against them from Lucknow for hurting Hindu sentiments. Furthermore, more than a few netizens, including the likes of filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri accused the quiz show of running "Leftists propaganda", being " hijacked by Commies" and "hurting Hindus" while others asked for a boycott of KBC and went as far as dissing the degrees and knowledge of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Father of the Indian Constitution. One even spoke about burning copies of the Indian Constitution for crying out loud. Check out some of the tweets below:

We now wonder if this'll be a short-term controversy or would it actually affect the show in the long run?
