"People call me controversial, rabble-rouser, dark all terms by people who expect one kind of behaviour (from me)," said Anurag Kashyap in a 2012 interview to Hindustan Times. It's been 8 years since that interview but not much has changed in terms of the way people perceive the filmmaker. Maybe it's because he doesn't have a filter and says things honestly. Here are 5 times when Anurag was amid controversies.
Sexual harassment charges
The filmmaker was recently accused by actress Payal Ghosh of sexual harassment. In an interview with ABN Telugu, Payal talked about the incident and shared that Anurag allegedly took her to a room and opened his zip and tried to force himself on her by opening her salwar kameez. Payal also claimed that Kashyap said that it is okay because other actresses he has worked with including Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha, Mahie Gill, are a call away. She said that she felt very uncomfortable with that incident and had to tactfully get away from that situation. Anurag denied all accusations later through a series of tweets.
When Anurag Kashyap took on Arbaaz
This happened after Anurag's brother Abhinav had a fallout with Arbaaz Khan. In one of his tweets Anurag had said, "Salman Khan thinks he made my brother's life, hope he does the same for Arbaaz when he does Dabangg 2." Arbaaz retorted stating that Salman had already made his life with Dabangg.
Criticising Amitabh Bachchan's Black
In 2005, Amitabh Bachchan's Black had released which got a lot of appreciation. Anurag wrote an article criticising the film which made the actor very upset. They didn't speak for 14 long years. He also had an argument with Abhishek Bachchan on the similarities between his film Chittagong and Abhishek's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.
Tiff with Karan Johar
Anurag lost his cool on Karan Johar on his show, Koffee with Karan. He asked how can anyone ask who is the best actor among Hrithik, Abhishek, Salman, and SRK. Anurag was also alleged to have called it a crappy show. An upset Karan retorted saying that Anurag perhaps needed a psychiatrist.
When he criticised Ram Gopal Varma
In 2007, when Varma made 'Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag', Anurag had said that said that the director had lost the plot. Then in Koffee with Karan, when Karan said, "Ram Gopal Varma is " Anurag stopped him and said, "Ram Gopal was, he is not 'is' anymore." Ramu later got a chance to get even when Anurag's Bombay Velvet flopped. There was a Twitter exchange between the two.
