Filmmaker Aanand L Rai, who is best known for his movies Tanu Weds Manu and Raanjhanaa, believes in exploring new stories everytime. He has been turned down by many A-listers when he approached them for a role in his film. Tanu Weds Manu
Chitrangada Singh was first offered the lead role, played by Kangana Ranaut, in Tanu Weds Manu franchise. However, the actress couldn't commit her dates to Aanand and the role eventually landed in Kangana's kitty.
Raanjhanaa
Dhanush's character of an obsessed lover was loved by the audience. However, the role was earlier offered to Shahid Kapoor who refused it because he wasn't too convinced about it.
Manmarziyaan
Manmarziyaan was supposed to be a reunion of Dum Laga Ke Haisha's jodi Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar. They even shot for 10 days in Amritsar but the shoot was put on hold for various reasons. The cast then eventually changed. Abhishek Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu later stepped in.
Zero
Anushka Sharma's role in Zero was first offered to Deepika Padukone. But she turned it down citing date issues. It was also being said that Kareena Kapoor Khan was being considered for Katrina Kaif's role. But she couldn't come on board because of some personal reasons.
Atrangi Re
According to the buzz, Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for Akshay Kumar's role in Atrangi Re. But he refused the offer because of Rai's dud show with Zero.
