In a tragic development, legendary Kannada filmmaker Ramu passed away after battling COVID-19. Yes, the situation is quite grave for India with the cases rising though the lockdown has considerably reduced the hike in cases. The producer was 52 and succumbed to the COVID-19 virus on Monday evening. As per reports, the Kannada film producer had been tested positive for COVID-19 about a week ago and had isolated himself at home. However, his health started deteriorating and he was rushed to the hospital about three days ago. The chairman of Kannada Film Academy and a close friend of Ramu, Sunil Pauranik confirmed his demise and offered condolences.
He said, "He was one of the rarest breed of producers, who not only established their own identity but also ensured that their films run on their name. His films ran on his name rather than on the name of a hero, director or music director. His name attracted the audience to the theatres. As he dared to spend lavishly, 52-year-old Ramu had earned the sobriquet of 'Koti Ramu' (to denote that he spends lavishly on his movie making)."
He earned the title of Koti Ramu was he was the first Kannada film producer to make a movie on the budget of Rs 1 crore in the 1990s. The film- Lockup Death was a massive success when it released. He became one of the leading producers in the Kannada film industry with the same. The filmmaker's journey in showbiz had been quite inspiring for everyone. He started out as an office boy at a film production house. His claim to fame came with 1993's superhit action-thriller Golibar with which he had turned producer. He was known for producing amazing action-thrillers. He married Kannada then female superstar Malashree.
In his career of over three decades, Ramu produced more than 30 films and his wife Malashree acted in about 11 of them. He is now survived by his wife, son and daughter. A lot of celebrities from the world of entertainment condoled his demise. Check it out below:
