Amidst the pandemic crisis of COVID-19, we saw the first big Bollywood release of 2021 in the form of Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma starrer Roohi, which released yesterday on the occasion of Mahashivratri. While it was a testing time for the filmmakers to see whether audience come out to the theatres or not, the result has turned out to be quite positive as the horror-comedy has managed to garner decent footfalls on its first day. As per the early estimates, the film has earned around Rs 3 crore. which is a good number looking at the current scenario. Well we hope, the collections show an upward trend and displays a healthy total by the end of its first weekend.
Speaking about the release of the during coronavirus, Janhvi Kapoor earlier told E Times, "I understand the circumstances and I am hoping that people go to the theatres to watch our film because it is really meant to be a big-screen experience. It is meant for a community viewing experience. I really do believe that it's a fun film and we have all worked very hard and done what we can. I really am hopeful, but, at the same time, I am trying to stay realistic about it. I know I have done my job to the best of my ability. I am looking forward to seeing what the audience thinks about it and I am hoping for the best."
While the box office report is encouraging, the film has got mixed reviews from the experts. Our critic has given 2.5 stars to Roohi and wrote, "If Dinesh Vijan and Maddock are really serious about creating an exciting horror universe that could last for several years and films, then Roohi is quite a misstep in that direction as it not only undoes a lot of the goodwill created by Stree, but also adds more pressure on Bhediya, coming next, to rectify the errors and bring things zooming back on track."
