Last year in December, Ellen Page who now goes by the name Elliot Page came out and announced that she is a transgender man. The 34-year-old actor has opened up on his new identity in an interview. He says he knew there would be some who would support him and some who would call him out and make fun of the whole thing. And that's what happened actually. Known for her roles in some popular films such as Juno and Inception, Elliot Page also spoke about how he felt like wanting to be a boy instead of a girl while growing up. In an interview with Times Magazine, Elliot spoke about the reaction that he anticipated post coming out as a transgender man. He said, "What I was anticipating was a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia. That's essentially what happened."
He struggled with his identity as a kid too. He recalls asking his mom to want to be a boy. "I felt like a boy. I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mom if I could be someday," he adds. During the interview, Elliot broke down while recalling the moment he finally made the disclosure. Ellio undergone a surgical procedure to remove his breast tissue and also cropped his hair short. He says, "It has completely transformed my life," while adding the not necessarily all transgenders undergo the surgery as it is quite expensive.
When asked how he is feeling now, the actor said, "This feeling of true excitement and deep gratitude to have made it to this point in my life," but also added, "mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety." Elliot Page also opened up on his mother's reaction after coming out. He recalls being the son of a minister, she always expected the best for her child even if that meant asking her to act more like a girl. However, she is all supportive of his disclosure. "I'm just so proud of my son," Elliot's mother told him. "She wants me to be who I am and supports me fully," he said while adding, "It is a testament to how people really change."
