Priyanka Chopra was very close to her father Dr Ashok Chopra. He had always been her forever cheerleader and a strong support system. It was a very shocking moment for the actress when she learnt about her father's cancer diagnosis, years ago. Dr Chopra was in a critical condition and needed to be shifted to a hospital abroad. During her terrible time, Priyanka's co-star, Hrithik Roshan, rushed to her aid and did everything in his capacity to get her father the best treatment for his illness.
"Incredibly, Hrithik who is hugely successful in the Hindi film industry, got on the phone and used his connections at Air India to arrange for my father's immediate flight to London," Priyanka wrote in her memoir, Unfinished, according to National Herald. She added that because of Hrithik's timely help, her father was shifted to London and a surgery was carried out which saved his life.
"If we hadn't had people around us who were so kind and so willing to act on our behalf - Hrithik and his father, Rakesh Sir, our family in Boston - I doubt that my father would have made it. There's no way I can ever express my gratitude adequately to them, bit it is deep and it is enduring," she said.
In her memoir, Priyanka has also mentioned about reeling from her father Dr Ashok Chopra's death to cancer in 2013. When Priyanka Chopra moved to New York in 2016, she was going through a tough time. She was also coping from her painful breakup at the same time. She had isolated herself from the outside world and would only go out to shoot for her television show Quantico. She had put on almost 9 kgs.
Priyanka didn't even confide in her mother Madhu Chopra. She had harboured so much grief inside her that she fell into a depression. She couldn't sleep at night and stayed up into the wee hours. "When I wasn't feeling numb, I felt lonely, sad, and isolated. No one understood what was going on inside me, because I didn't tell anyone," Priyanka wrote.
She often keeps sharing throwback moments of her father on social media while remembering him. Incidentally, she has a tattoo on her forearm that reads, "Daddy's lil girl".
