As the COVID-19 crisis is taking a back seat, we are expecting Bollywood to release their biggies in the upcoming months. And among them is Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer '83, which was supposed to hit the screens in April last year but got delayed due to lockdown. While the fans are more than excited to witness this film on the silver screen, the latest reports suggest that makers are releasing the sports drama in June.
As per the Bollywood Hungama report, a source close to the film said, "Reliance along with the many other producers of the film have decided to release the sports flick in the month of June. It makes sense as the normalcy would have kicked in firmly by then. Also, getting it in theatres before, in April, is not feasible as Sooryavanshi is releasing on April 2. Also, the holy month of Ramzan is expected to commence from Monday April 12. So April is completely ruled out. The month of May will see the release of two big films Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai and Satyameva Jayate 2. Both the movies are expected to release during Eid, on or around May 14. A few films might also release in cinemas in the last two weeks of May. Hence, June seems like a good period."'83 showcases the journey of Indian cricket team's heroic win in the 1983 World Cup. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath, Tahir Raj Bhasin as Sunil Gavaskar and others in pivotal roles.
Ranveer's wife Deepika is also playing reel-life better half in the film as she portrays the character of Romi Dev. Talking about Deepika Padukone coming on board, director Kabir Khan told us, "I think the background, the fact that her dad, Prakash Padukone was a sports superstar, that influenced her very strongly. It wasn't because Deepika had agreed to do the film that I wrote the role. Deepika liked the role, and that's why she agreed to do the film. We never initially intended it that way (Deepika being a part of the film), and as Deepika said, there's a certain support role that the family plays, and I wanted to capture that, which is why I wrote the character of Romi, and when I narrated it to Deepika, I knew it was a small role. So, I said to Deepika, 'Just listen to the film. If you like it, you'll come on board, if not, you won't come on board. She heard the film, and she knew it was about the team and the boys and Kapil. But, she just loved the script and so, she came on board."
