Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who is currently in Goa, revealed that he will not be collaborating with Amitabh Bachchan for Sarkar 4 as he quashed the rumours of the fourth installment and told E Times, "Sarkar 4 is not on top of my mind for sure, because it will be a case of overstretching a character and story. Even if you look at the three-film series of Godfather (1972, 1974 and 1990), no one let Francis Ford Coppola make part four. I'm sure they did it with good reason. The more you stretch something, the more impact it loses."
He added, "I'd rather do something new, and explore a genre with Mr Bachchan that I haven't done before. I don't want to go back to him to do Sarkar for the fourth time. In fact, I had something in mind, but COVID-19 threw my plans off-gear. Once I complete my current lot of films, I will go back to what I have in mind for him." While talking to the portal, the filmmaker earlier said, "I have never worked with commercial stars except for Mr Amitabh Bachchan , who is a very realistic actor and fits the genre of films I make. Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar were not such big stars when I made 'Rangeela'. And if I was to cast Ajay Devgn in 'Company' now, it would probably go against what his current fan base expects from him."
In a recent interview with BollywoodLife, RGV revealed that it was his fault to remake Sholay, which was a disaster as he said, "Many a times, remakes are parodied a lot because very rarely they like scenes as compared to the original. They like the original so much that they feel it's been spoiled or something. I definitely think it's one of the factors (for the derision and disastrous outcomes both critically and commercially of his Sholay remake, Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag), not the only factor...the factor, I think, is when they (the audience) see Dharmendra or Amitabh Bachchan at that time in those kind of roles, and then to suddenly see someone else, whether they're good or bad, it's very difficult to simulate, especially considering the popularity of Sholay, which incidentally never dies. So, I'd think that's one important factor, but not the only factor because I, too, had become too indulgent with the film and I had a lot of lag in it and I think it was just all over the place. S, that (the remake aspect) was just one factor, but largely, it had to do wit me, my indulgence,"
