It may have been a dud of a year at the box office for film industries all over the world given that three quarters of the year were eaten away by the Coronavirus pandemic, leading to theatres across the globe being shut down, and when they opened, it was but it bits and pieces. What that has done though is created a huge backlog of some eagerly anticipated movies being carried forward to 2021, which, when coupled with the ones that were already slated for release, creates an exciting chunk of forthcoming films. And if you're a Hollywood movie-buff, then there's certainly a mighty lot to look forward to. So, without further ado, here are ten upcoming Hollywood movies that any self-respecting movie aficionado needs to have on her/his watchlist for 2021...
Godzilla vs Kong
If you loved Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Kong: Skull Island, Peter Jackson's King Kong, the 1998 Godzilla, the original 1933 stop-motion King Kong, the Japanese TOHO classic or monster movies in general, then it doesn't get bigger than Godzilla vs Kong, the two biggest movie monsters clashing on the big screen with all the latest VFX to aid their mayhem.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Venom was a surprisingly well made and extremely cool superhero movie, with Tom Hardy fitting the role like a snugly made glove. Fingers crossed that Venom 2 is more of the same.
Jungle Cruise
This may be looking like a Jumanji rip-off and it even stars Dwayne Johnson, but when you have The Rock saving people trapped in the middle of the jungle, and Emily Blunt giving him company, you don't mind strapping in for the ride, do you?
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Paranormal horror movies don't get bigger than The Conjuring Universe, and even though the spin-offs haven't been as good as the original franchise, the fact that The Conjuring 3 is hitting screens next year, augments our excitement for another spook-fest. That being said, we're still a bit on the fence with this one as James Wan isn't returning to the director's chair. Anyway, we're just glad that it's arriving after being delayed due to the pandemic.
Fast & Furious 9
Another film that had to wait a year due to lockdown and a subsequent scant turnout in theatres, the ninth instalment of the Vin Diesel and The Rock's Fast and Furious franchise is being eagerly awaited by action junkies the world over.
A Quiet Place Part II
The sleeper hit, Tremors-themed creature-feature is another one that's been delayed an entire year, but that has dampened the spirits one bit of all those who dug the 2018 sleeper super hit.
No Time to Die
One more added to the list of movies we had to wait for due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but rest assured that when James Bond comes knocking, especially when it is Daniel Craig's last outing as Bond, everybody will queue up outside cinema halls, well...if it's safe to queue up.
The King's Man
The Kingsman franchise has been like a breath of fresh air for those looking for more subversive action films in the throng of superhero films or more hardcore stuff. This time we're getting a prequel that outlines the inception of the spy service, starring multiple-Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes.
Top Gun: Maverick
Tom Cruise rreturns to the role that made him an international superstar in a sequel 24 years in the making. Need we say more?
Ghostbuters: Afterlife
After the horrid 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters returns to its roots as an official third part of the beloved franchise (especially the first entry in 1984), with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd set to reprise their roles alongside new cast members Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon and Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard. It's good that the studio took note and listened to the fans.
