There's no doubt about Diwali being one of the best times to release a film in India. The mood is festive, and people generally have the time to chill and watch films with their family. That's one main reason why many big films are planned years in advance to release during Diwali. While we're on Diwali releases, did you know that Shah Rukh Khan has a 100% track record? Yes, you heard that right. Right from 1993, when SRK's Baazigar released during Diwali and was a massive hit, there's no looking back for the actor. Here's a look at the Diwali releases of SRK.
Baazigar (1993)
One rare film in which SRK played a negative role and it paid off wonderfully! SRK played a character who seeks revenge from Madan Chopra (Dalip Tahil). Also starring Kajol and Shilpa Shetty Kundra, the film taught many of us who grew up in '90s, the meaning of power of attorney.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
This SRK-Kajol starrer was released during Diwali and is one of the most successful Indian films till date. In fact, it is still running in Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre.
Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
This love triangle starrer Shah Rukh Khan, Karisma Kapoor & Madhuri Dixit. Directed by Yash Chopra, this dance-based musical was a huge hit at the box office.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring SRK, Rani & Kajol, was such a massive hit that people copied the clothes that the actors wore in the film. It also popularised friendship bands. Karan Johar donned the director's hat for the first time with this film.
Mohabbatein (2000)
This musical drama pitted Amitabh Bachchan & Shah Rukh Khan against each other for the first time. It worked and how!
Veer-Zaara (2004)
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji in key roles, this film worked wonderfully mainly because of its India-Pakistan story and excellent performances. It was Yash Chopra's comeback film as a director after 7 long years.
Don (2006)
Directed by Farhan Akhtar, this film was a reboot of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don which released in 1978. The twist in the climax of the SRK starrer was totally amazing!
Om Shanti Om (2007)
This film marked the debut of Farah Khan and was a huge hit! It was also the debut film of Deepika Padukone.
Ra.One (2011)
Shah Rukh Khan played a superhero in this film which was directed by Anubhav Sinha. "Tum har saal Raavan ko isliye jalate ho, kyun ki tum jaante ho woh kabhi nahin marta." This dialogue from the film was just epic!
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
This was the last film directed by Yash Chopra who sadly passed away due to dengue before the film could even release. It was the third time he collaborated with SRK after Dil To Pagal Hai and Veer-Zaara.
Happy New Year (2014)
This heist action comedy was directed by Farah Khan and did extremely well at the box office. Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Vivaan Shah and Jackie Shroff played pivotal roles in it.
